50 injured in clash between villagers in B’baria

At least 50 people were injured in two spells of a clash between two groups of villagers at Syedtula village of Sarail upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Quoting witnesses, Rupak Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, said Mahram Ali, 58, general secretary of Syedtula Bazaar managing committee and Babul Mia, 35, a vendor locked into an altercation over the salary of the market’s night guard on Tuesday.
Following the altercation, a clash ensued between two groups of villagers with locally made weapons on Wednesday afternoon. On information, police rushed to the spot
and shot canisters of tear gas to bring the situation under control.
The villagers, later, locked into a clash in the second spell, leaving at least 50 people injured.
Law enforcers went to the spot and brought the situation under control after trying for two hours. They shot 55 rounds of rubber bullets and 11 tear gas shells.
Among the injured, Chanchal Mia, former UP Chairman, was admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
The law enforcers were deployed to avoid further untoward situation, OC added.
