Feb 6: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in a drive on Monday demolished 50 establishments at New Jail Gate area of the district town.
Among others, District Administration, Department of Environment, Bangladesh Power Development Board, police, and Rapid Action Battalion cooperated in the drive.
At that time, one Mohammad Zobayer, son of Azizur Rahman of the area was arrested for illegally cutting hill.
Director General (Admin) of ACC Mohammad Munir Chowdhury ordered the deputy commissioner to take strict action against illegal hill cutting and encroachment of lands. Deputy Director of ACC’s Chattogram Divisional Office Lutful Kabir Chandan, Executive Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar District Administration Selim Sheikh, and Assistant Director of District Environment Department Kamrul Hasan led the drive.
In this connection, ACC DG (Admin) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said, “Illegal hill cutting and grabbing of government land are going on due to corruption and lack of monitoring. We will investigate into these allegations. None will be spared.”
