District administration eviction team removed 50 families from the risky hill pockets of Motijharna Hill in Lalkhan Bazaar area in city on Wednesday .
These evicted families have been sent to safer place . District authority also started miking to leave the risky hill pockets immediately from Akber Shah, Shapla Residential Area, Bishwa colony, Faruk chowdhury math, Tiger pass, Lalkhan Bazaar, Motijharna, Battali Hill, Baizid area following the incessant rain continuing for the last four days.
Besides, CMP authority, City Corporation also asking the hill side dwellers to leave the place of residence to avoid severe hill slide disaster. Earlier , district administration also evicted 50 families from Battali hill area last week. District administration sources said there are 665 families residing in hillpockets of 11 hills in city .
Sources said in last 8 years, about 200 hill residents were killed during rainy season with hill landslide. Among them, 127 killed in 2007, 11 in 2008, 11 in 2009 & 10 , 11 in cantonment areas. In 2011 17 killed in Battali hill, 23 killed in 2012 and 5 killed in 2013.
The concerned administration evicted the hill pocket dwellers during rainy season with hurriedly but after end of the season, these evictees are not rehabilitated properly and hence these sufferers again reconstruct their shanties after end of emergency period.
Mentionable that following the hill slide of 2007 at Motijarna hill, a committee headed by the Divisional commissioner of Chittagong was formed and the committee formulated 36 reasons to protect such killings again but these formulated recommendations yet to be implemented, sources said.
