Over 50 elderly MPs have been asked not to join the upcoming budget session of the Jatiya Sangsad as part of measures to ensure safety of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other MPs following the coronavirus pandemic.
The JS budget session for 2020-21 fiscal year will begin on June 10. It is set to begin at 5pm with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
A change has been brought to the arrangement of seats of the Prime Minister and MPs.
Several seats around that of the Prime Minister will be kept empty this time, too.
Officials who have passed the coronavirus test can only work with her.
Besides, the Parliament Secretariat has planned to conduct sittings in every alternative day instead of every day.
There are 350 seats, including 50 reserved ones, in Parliament. Of them, 60 MPs are needed to form a quorum.
On April 18, Parliament sat for a single day to fulfill the constitutional obligation.
