The country on Tuesday registered 50 deaths and detected 2,856 more patients of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
“With the new fatalities, the death toll now stands at 2,801 and the death rate 1.30 per cent,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in a press briefing in Dhaka.
With the new cases, the total number of infections in the country is 2,16,110.
The DGHS official said that 12,398 samples were tested across the country and found that the current infection rate is 23.04 per cent.
The total infection rate stands at 20.03 per cent, she added.
Dr. Sultana said that 2,006 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.
The total number of recoveries stands at 1,19,208 and the recovery rate at 55.16 per cent, she added. The DGHS official said that 6097 people were put under isolation in the same period.
She said that among the deceased, 41 were males and nine were females, while three were between 31-40 years old, seven between 41-50, 12 between 51-60, 16 between 61-70, eight between 71-80 and four between 81-90 years old.
Among them, 20 were from Dhaka, seven from Khulna, seven from Rangpur, six from Rajshahi, five from Chattogram, four were from Barishal and one from Sylhet division.
Bangladesh registered its first coronavirus infection cases on March 8 and first death on March 18.
The country is currently on the 16th position in the list of worst affected country in the world in terms of the number of cases.
