Around 50 crude bombs were exploded in separate parts of the district during the countrywide transport blockade on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Miscreants set off at least 40 crude bombs at Kalibari intersection, TA road, Ghatura crossing, Powerhouse road,
Zilla Parishad Market, Rail Gate, Kautali crossing, Kumarshil crossing, Medda and Pirbari areas of the town after 9pm on Monday.
Besides, five crude bombs went off at Poirtala while six others at Ramrail in Sadar upazila of the district around 8:30am on Tuesday. However, there was no report of any casualty in the incidents.
Following the bomb blasts, police have stepped up their vigilance in various important points of the town. Besides, two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh were on patrol to fend off further trouble.
Meanwhile, police arrested 13 BNP activists from several parts of the district from Monday night to Tuesday morning, said additional superintendent of police Jahidul Islam.
