Ransacking of Registrar office: 50 BU students sued, agitation continue

Barisal University authority lodged a case early Saturday with Kotwali police station against 50 students, including four by name for ransacking registrar office and injuring four officials and staff on Thursday.
The case was lodged after the seven-member probe committee submitted their report on Friday.
Shakhawat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge, Kotwali Police Station said that Saiduzzaman, Estate Officer BU , as complainant, lodged the case quoting names of Aqib Javed Khan, Reza Sharif, Enamul Moni and Al-Mamun and 45/50 unnamed students as accused.
The complainant in the case alleged that the accused students on Thursday attacking BU registrar office-1 ransacked office equipment, furniture and injuring four officials and staff.
Among the injured, Bahauddin Golap, Assistant Registrar and President of the BU Officers Association, Saiful Islam, Computer Operator,
section officers, Nusrat Jahan and Sanjia Sultana Tamanna, were given treatment at different clinics and hospital.
Sub-Inspector Kabir Hossain has been appointed investigation officer of the case. Police has started drives to arrest the accused and trying to collect photos and video clips printed and broadcast in media, said the OC Kotwali PS.
Prof. Dr.Harunor Rashid Khan, BU Vice-Chancellor, said that the case was lodged after the 7-member probe committee led by BU Syndicate Member Prof. Md. Hanif along with representatives from teachers association and officers-staff solidarity council submitted report on Friday.
Stern disciplinary action would also be taken against the attackers on the basis of the report of probe committee, the VC assured.
On the other hand, BU officers-staff solidarity council (Barisal Bishwabidyaloy Karmakarta Karmachari Oikya Parishad) continuing agitation programme held agitation rally on BU campus on Saturday morning.
They demanding immediate arrest of the accused attackers and assurances of safety and security of the officers and staff announced to continue work abstention programme.
Manirul Islam, BU Acting Registrar and Convener of the parishad, presided over the rally conducted by Mamtaz Moli, Secretary BU Officers Association and addressed by other leaders of the Parishad.
However that students said, Golap was the agent of VC and road transport owners. So, the VC did not lodge case against the road transport owners and workers even after repeated attacks against students. But the VC trying to politicalise the issue ordered to lodge the case against students immediately after his agent Golap was assaulted by agitated students.
The students also declared Golap as persona non-grata on the campus for his role against the interests of the students and cautioned to boycott class and examinations if Golap was not be removed from his post and withdrawn from campus and cases against the students were not withdrawn.
M A Qaium, Lecturer of Marketing department, blamed the VC for creating unstable situation on the campus by autocratic rule holding 23-post alone, nepotism, corruption and irregularities.
