Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan captured five wickets of Sri Lanka at the cost of 96 runs on the fourth day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Thursday. Shakib Al Hasan completed his superb spell as 40.1-11-96-5.
Shakib Al Hasan trapped leg before wicket Kusal Mendis for 11 runs on the second day (Tuesday).
Then, the left-arm spinner bowled out Dimuth Karunaratne (80) on Wednesday.
Fourth-down Dhananjaya de Silva (58) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Shakib Al Hasan on the same day.
Wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella (9) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Shakib Al Hasan on the fourth day (Thursday).
Number-10 batter Praveen Jayawickrama (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off the left-arm spinner and Shakib Al Hasan fulfilled his five-wicket haul.
Later, ninth-down Asitha Fernando (2) was run out by Shakib Al Hasan and Sri Lanka’s first innings came to an end.
Shakib Al Hasan captured six wickets in the space of 33 runs against West Indies in Jamaica in the year of 2018. After three years and 10 months Shakib Al Hasan claimed five-wicket haul in his Test campaign.
It may be mentioned that the ace all-rounder could not play a good number of Test cricket matches during this time. He was banned for one year by International Cricket Council (ICC). After that he took part in seven Test matches. But he failed to haul five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan got 23 wickets in those matches.
In the year of 2010, Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Shahhdat Hossain captured five wickets each against India in Chattogram Test. But Ebadot Hossain could not grab five wickets in this test. He bagged four wickets for 148 runs.
