Five public universities signed an agreement with University Grant Commission (UGC) on Tuesday at UGC auditorium to implement university-industry collaborative research project under Innovation Fund of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project.
The goal of the research project is to introduce a culture of developing innovation ecosystem in Bangladesh. The universities are Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Chittagong University, Khulna University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan graced the function as chief guest. UGC Member Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Molah presided over the function.
Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) was present as special guest. UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled signed the agreement on behalf of UGC. Md. Korban Ali, AIF Coordinator, HEQEP delivered the welcome address.
Dhaka University will conduct research activities with Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd Bangladesh, Rajshahi University with Interstoff Apparels Ltd, Chittagong University with Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Khulna University with Akij Partical Board Mills Ltd and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology with Invent Technologies Ltd.
UGC Chairman, in his speech said that the collaborative research between universities and industries is being practised in developed countries for a long time. University-industry interaction is needed for development of science and technology of a country. But this practice is almost nil in Bangladesh. Through the contract signing, researchers of the concerned universities will be immensely benefitted, he added.
Vice-Chancellors and Sub-project Managers of concerned universities, high officials from UGC, representative from World Bank and HEQEP were present on the occasion.
