Five Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees, who failed to get pass marks in this year’s examinations, reportedly committed suicide in Magura, Feni and Pirojpur districts on Thursday and Friday.
In Feni, Jessica Akhter, 16, daughter of Fakhrul Islam from Sonagazi upazila, and Tahmina Akhter, 16, daughter of Mintu Mia from Fulgazi upazila, could not pass in the examination and for that reason they committed suicide on Friday.
In Pirojpur, a Dakhil examinee Pori Akhter, 17, daughter of Mahbubur Rahman Khan from Kawkhali upazila, took her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in the house around 5:30pm on Thursday.
She was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared her dead, said Md Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Kawkhali Police Station. Pori was a student of Parsaturia Salekiya Dakhil Madrasha at Kawkhali.
In Magura, two examinees who could not accept their results cut short of their lives in grief.
The deceased were identified as Arifa Begum, 17, daughter of Mohon Mandal from Sreepur upazila, and Hridoy Biswas, 16, son of Kumaresh Biswas from the Sadar upazila.
The body of Arifa, a student of Dariapur High School, was found hanging from a tree after the publication of the SSC results on Thursday, said Rezaul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station.
In another incident, Hridoy killed himself in the same way as he could not get pass marks in the SSC examination, said police.
