At least 12 people, including five brothers of a family, were killed in separate tragic road crashes across the country on Tuesday.
In Cox’s Bazar, five brothers of a family were killed and three others injured when a pick-up van rammed them in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.
The victims were identified as Anupam Shil, 45, Nirupam Shil, 43, Dipak Shil, 40, Champak Shil, 38 and Sharan Shil, 26, sons of one late Suresh Chandra Shil of Ringvong village in Dulahajara union of the upazila.
The injured are brothers Plaban Shil, Raktim Shil and their sister Munni Shil. They were rushed to Chattogram medical College Hospital and Malumghat Memorial Cristian Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Osman Gani confirmed the news to the media on Tuesday afternoon.
According to locals, father Suresh Chandra Shil of the deceased brothers died 10 days ago. They met the tragic accident while returning home performing few rituals at a nearby temple.
Family members of the victims alleged that it might be a murder as the Cox’s-Bazar-bound pickup van rammed into them when they were waiting beside the road, not crossing the road.
In Naogaon, two youths were killed in a head-on collision between a Bhatboti and a motorcycle in Manda upazila of Naogaon.
The accident took place at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday (February 8) at Satbaria junction of Naogaon-Rajshahi regional highway. The deceased were identified as Pinaki Sarkar, 32, son of Punai Sarkar of Tantarpur village under Mahadevpur upazila and Shariful Islam, 38, son of late Khalil Uddin of Dariyapur village.
Manda Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Rahman confirmed the news to the media saying that police recovered the bodies from the spot after getting the information.
In Chuadanga, at least three people including a woman were killed in separate road crashes in the district on Monday night.
At Damurhuda, two riders of a motorcycle were killed in a collision with Bhatvati (Alamsadhu) in the upazila of Chuadanga. Another person was injured in the incident.
The accident took place on Monday (February 8) at around 9 pm in the area of Jayrampur Kathaltala on the Chuadanga-Darshana road.
The deceased were identified as Laltu Mia, 22, son of Iman Ali from Amdanga village under Damurhuda upazila and Rifat, 18, son of Kayesh Uddin from Akundbaria village under Chuadanga Sadar upazila.
On the other hand, a female pedestrian named Tasmina Khatun (40), was killed in a collision with Alamsadhu in Hatkaluganj area of the district.
Damurhuda Model Police Inspector (Investigation) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter to the media.
In Munshiganj, an unidentified person was killed when he was hit by a microbus while crossing the road at Bhaberchar bus stand on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila. The incident took place at 9:58 a.m. on Tuesday while he crossing the road.
In Noakhali: a man named Nurul Islam Chowdhury (65) was killed when he was hit by a pickup van at Ramzan Bibi Bazar in Eklashpur union of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. The accident took place at Ramzan Bibi Bazar on Chaumuhani-Maijdi Road around 10 pm on Monday (February 8).
