5 shops gutted in Kurigram town

Atleast five cloth shops were burnt in a devastating fire in Kurigram Sagor Market early hours on Wednesday.
 Local sources said the fire was originated from electric short circuit in a cloth shop named ‘Arong Fabrics’ and engulfed the adjacent four shops. The owner of other cloth shops saved their goods rapidly taking to safer places.
 Being informed fire fighters of Kurigram,Nageswari upazila,Ulipur upazila and Lalmonirhat district rushed to the spot and jointly brought the fire under control after frantic efforts of three hours.Md. Golam Azam owner of Satata Cloth Store told in the morning that the fire broke out at about 4am and at that time most of the businessmen were sleeping. However hearing the news the businessmen managed to safe their respective goods taking to safer places.
The loss may be at Tk. three crore. A huge people gathered thre to observe the situation. Polices have been deployed there as peace keeper.Deputy Assistant Director of Kurigram fire service and civil defense Md. Sirajul Islam told this correspondent that the loss was estimated at Tk. about one crore.
