A Chittagong court on Wednesday sent five persons, including an official of Food Department, to jail in connection with a case filed over the seizure of 155 tons of government rice.
The court also ordered to deposit the food grains to Central Storage Depot (CSD). The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shahdat Hossain Bhuiyan sent them to jail after police placed them before the court, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (prosecution) Nirmolondu Bikash Chakaraborti.
RAB-7 seized seven trucks loaded with 155 tons of government rice and detained five persons, including Pronoyon Chakma, manager of CSD in Halishahar area, from City Gate area of the city on Monday night.
