Court Correspondent :
The High Court Division of the Supreme Court exempted five lawyers from contempt of court charge after they offered unconditional apology to the court for obstructing court proceedings through shouting and vandalism at courtroom.
Bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury passed the order on Thursday after hearing on the contempt of court ruled issued against these lawyers.
The court also directed the Registrar General of Supreme Court to find out whether the bench officer committed irregularities in fixing the number of the cases in the list and whether he took money for this purpose.
Earlier on July 10, the five Supreme Court lawyers offered unconditional apology to the High Court for obstructing the court proceedings, shouting in the courtroom and assaulting a bench officer.
On June 19, the Bench issued a rule on a suo moto (of its own) move asking the lawyers to explain within 10 days as to why action should not be taken against them for committing contempt of court by obstructing its proceedings and shouting in the courtroom.
The lawyers allegedly assaulted Bench Officer Rafiqul Islam and ransacked the court documents as their motion petitions were not included in the cause list for hearing on June 19. The incident took place after the judges left the courtroom on that day.
The five lawyers are Nur-e-Alam Uzzal, Billah Hossain Lijen Patwari, BM Sultan Mahmud, Motilal Bepari and Mohammad Ali.
