Police arrested five alleged robbers after a brief gunfight at Aftabnagar under Badda police station in the capital on Thursday night.
Police recovered two sharp weapons, one knife and one bullet from their possessions.
The arrested persons have been identified as Swapan, Masum, Monir, Roby Hossain alias Pinto, and Md Nayun from the spot.
Among them, Swapan, Masum and Monir sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight. They have been sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The two injured police constables Anwar and Muzammel had been sent to the Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badda Police Station Abdul Jalil said that a special team of police conducted a drive at Loharpol in Aftabnagar at about 11:30 pm. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gangsters fired gunshots targeting the policemen, who fired back. After a brief gunfight, police arrested them from the spot.
A case has been filed with the police station in this connection, the police official said.
