5 restaurants fined

A mobile court of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Sunday fined five restaurants TK 73 thousand at city’s Khulshi and Kotwali areas as per Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.
Assistant Director of DNCRP, Chittagong District Office, Mohammad Foyez Ullah along with other DNCRP officials conducted a drive at city’s Khulshi area and fined Jilani Hotel Tk 18 thousand and Ruhul Amin Hotel and Restaurant Tk 10 thousand for producing food in unhygienic environment and for using burnt and stale oil.
The same mobile court in another drive at city’s Kotwali area fined ABP Hotel Tk 25 thousand, Iran Hotel Tk five thousand on the same grounds and Monginis Restaurant Tk 15 thousand for not providing services as promised in different advertisements.
Such drives would continue in the future in order to ensure the rights of the consumers, DNCRP sources said.
Fake DB police held : Police arrested a person masquerading as a member of Detective Branch (DB) of Police from the city’s KB Aman Ali Road area on early Sunday. The arrestee was identified as Himadri Bishwas, son of Supok Kumar Bishwas, hailed from Rawzan. Kusum Dewan, Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan Detective Police, said, “Himadri is a BSc Engineer and works in a private company.
Introducing himself as an officer of Special Branch of Police, he had been blackmailing people for long.”
Acting on a tip off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Himadri at around 2:00am.
During the drive police also recovered a laptop, visiting cards of fake SB police, seal, stamp pad, pen drive and a hard disk from his possession.
“He might have been a cyber criminal,” added Dewan.
