Five people have been put on a three-day remand in a case filed on the charge of assaulting three police men at Jurain in the capital of Dhaka.
The accused who were remanded are identified as Advocate Sohakul Islam Rony, Advocate Yeasin Arafat Bhuiyan, Md Sharif, Md Nahid, and Md Russel.
The court also granted bail to accused Yeasin Zahan Nishan Bhuiyan.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the two orders after police had produced them before the court.
Earlier on Tuesday night, the charge was lodged against three named and around 450 unknown people with Shyampur Police Station in this connection.
When asked about the case against 450 unknown persons, Mafizul Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shyampur Police Station told the New Nation that we will arrest them based on fact, video footage and others images. We are careful enough that we will not do anything so that unoffending people never suffer, OC said.
According to the case statement, Yeasin along with his wife lawyer Nishat on a motorcycle was coming from the opposite direction on Jurain rail gate road around 9 pm on Tuesday.
At that time, Sergeant Ali Hossain and traffic constable Siraj stopped them to check the documents of the vehicle.
Introducing herself as a lawyer, Nishat locked into an altercation with Ali Hossain, and at one stage, Yeasin pushed him.
During that time, ‘Pathao’ and auto-rickshaw drivers attacked the sergeant after the lawyer started shouting.
Shyampur Police Station Sub-Inspector Utpal Dutt Opu was also stabbed when he along with other cops came to the spot, the traffic police box was vandalised.
Later, the injured three police members were rescued and admitted to hospitals.
