In a tragic road accident, five members of a family were killed when a passenger bus rammed into a battery-run ‘easy-bike’ at Selimnagar Bazaar under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Jabeda Khatun, 68, wife of Nurul Alim, her son Omar Faruk, 40, two grandchildren-Lammi Akter, 9, and Alif Uddin, 4, and her daughter Shaher Banu, 27, from Ramdas village in the upazila.
Police said that the victims died on the spot.
However, Lalmonirhat Additional Police Super Shahadat Hossain said that the accident took place at around 12:30am when a passenger bus hit a easy-bike at Salimnagar Bazar area, leaving five passengers dead on the spot and at least 10 others injured.
The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital in a critical condition, Mahfuzur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station said.
Police failed to nab the driver and helper of the bus. A case has been filed with the concerned police station in this connection.
