Detective Branch (DB), Wari Division of DMP, arrested five members of a motorcycle theft gang from Shanirakhra and Dhalpur areas in the Dhaka on Tuesday (August 16).
According to the sources, the organized gang stole more than 500 motorcycles from different areas of the capital in the last eight years in order to become rich in short time. Most of the motorcycles stolen are Gixxer models of Suzuki brand.
The gang members were identified as Noor Mohammad (26), mastermind of the ring, his acquaintances Robin (23), Sajal (18), Monir (22) and Akash (22). About 13 stolen motorcycles were seized from their possessions during the drive.

Police confirmed this at a press conference in the DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
According to DB, Noor Mohammad and his accomplices used to steal motorcycles of Gixxer model of Suzuki from different areas of Old Dhaka. They specifically generate master keys (fake keys) for bike. They used to run away as soon as they started the targeted bike with the fake key. In this way, Noor Mohammad stole at least 500 motorcycles from Old Dhaka and its surrounding areas in the last few years.
They used to sell stolen motorcycles at small prices in different areas around Dhaka including Keraniganj, Dohar and Munshiganj.
Recently, while investigating two motorcycle theft cases in Wari and Gendaria of the capital, these five members of the thief gang were identified with the help of CCTV footage and information technology, DB officials added.
