At least five people, including a police and a schoolteacher, were killed and several others injured in separate road crashes across the country on Monday.
In Magura, two motorcycle riders were killed when a covered van rammed the bike on Dhaka-Khulna highway of the district.
The incident took place in front of Parananduali Youth Development Office around 7:00am on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Lavlu Talukder, 38, son of Shahjahan Talukder of Bhanga area of Faridpur and his brother-in-law Niamul Islam, 25, son of Abdul Wadud of the same area.
Abdul Momin, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Magura Sadar Police Station told media that “The bodies were sent to Magura Sadar Hospital morgue.”
“The process to file a case is underway. The killer covered van driver and the vehicle will be tracked down through CCTV footage,” the SI added.
In Moulvibazar, a woman named Tasnima Begum, 23, was killed in road crash in Srimangal of Moulvibazar. She was ran over by a truck after falling from her husband’s motorcycle.
The accident took place in the Mandanga tea garden area of the upazila around 10 am On Monday.
KM Nazrul, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Srimangal Police Station confirmed the incident to media.
In Chittagong, at least two persons were killed in separate road crashes on Monday.
A School teacher named Jarna Barua, 30, was killed when a local Mahindra car hit her in Manisha Tech area of Patiya. The accident occurred on Monday around 10:00am.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder confirmed the news to the media.
A law enforcement personnel was killed when a bus ran over him in front of Foy’s Lake gate in Chattogram city on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Aman Ullah, 52, a traffic police constable from Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria.
A ‘Shyamoly Paribahan’ bus ran over Aman at 9:00pm, leaving him critically injured, said Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Officer-in-Charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Camp.
Locals rescued him and sent him to the CMCH where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:30pm.
