5 more drug traders killed in gunfights

Five suspected drug peddlers have been killed in ‘gunfights’ in four districts across the country.
The cumulative number of death toll reached 218 during the nationwide crackdown against drug since May 16.
The deceased are Nur Hossain alias Nuru from the capital, Md Sohel Rana alias Suraiya Sohel from Lakshmipur, Futu alias Monna and Rasel Ahmed from Kushtia, and Kamal Mridha from Natore.
In Dhaka, 35-year old Nur Hossain Nuru, a suspected drug trader, was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of Police around 3:00am at Deushur in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka district.
He was wanted in 12 criminal cases, said Monirul Islam, OC of DB police,
They also recovered a firearm and 35 pieces of yaba tablets, the police official said.
In Lakshmipur, a listed drug peddler named Sohel was killed in a “gunfight” with police at Singerpool area near the Raipur-Chandpur Highway in around 3:00am on Wednesday, said Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge
(OC) Azizur Rahman.
Sohel was accused in a total of 22 cases, filed over charges of involvement in illegal narcotics, robbery, extortion, and assaulting women.
In Kushtia, two suspected drug dealers, belonging to the same family, have been killed in a “gunfight” with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Mirpur area of Kushtia.
The deceased are Futu alias Monna, 35, and Rasel Ahmed, 30. The incident occurred near Zoardar Brick Kiln in the early hours of Wednesday, said RAB-12’s Kushtia Camp Company Commander Mohaiminul.
One 9mm pistol, one home made gun, two cartridges, 12 bullets, 40 litres of liquor, 1,500 yaba pills and 230 bottles of phensedyl were also seized from the area, the RAB official said.
In Natore, a suspected narcotics dealer has been killed in a “gunfight” with the RAB in the Bahimali area of Natore, said Natore RAB Company Commander Shibli Mostafa.
The deceased was identified as Osman Ali, 32, a native of Baraigram upazila.
Responding to a query, Shibli Mostafa said that the RAB team seized one 7.62mm pistol, a magazine with four bullets, one bullet shell, 410 grams of heroin, one mobile phone charger, two gas lighters, two packs of cigarettes, seven sandals, and Tk1,410 in cash from the scene.
