Five madrasa teachers were arrested on Thursday in connection with a case filed on charge of the death of an 11-year old boy in Chattogram city’s Bayazid area.
The child named Habibur Rahman was the student of Omar Faruk Al-Islamia Madrasa and Orphanage. He was found hanging in a madrasa mosque.
Victim’s father Anisur Rahman filed a murder case with Bayazid Police Station on Friday, accusing Abu Darda Khan, the principal, and Md Tarekur Rahman, a teacher, and seven unnamed persons. Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) Mizanur Rahman confirmed it.
Those arrested were Darda, Tarek, and three other teachers of the madrasa Md Jubayer, 29, Md Anas Ali, 29 and Md Abdus Samad, 48.
Quoiting family members and students, ADC Mizan said “During prima facie, police came to know that teacher Tarek used to beat Habib often, which forced the deceased to leave the Madrasa. But the guardians convinced him to return to the Madrasa.
In the case statement, victim’s father Anisur Rahman alleged that Habib was beaten for two to three days. On April 10, madrasa teacher Tarek phoned him and said Habibur went missing from the madrasa.
After few hours, Principal Darda again phoned him and told that Habib committed suicide by hanging himself inside the mosque.
Talking to the newspaper, victim’s father said: “Habib got admitted to the madrasa a year ago. My elder son Mizanur Rahman is also a student of the same madrasa.”
“As Tarek used to beat him often, Habib came to the house three days ago, but he (Habib) was sent back to the madrasa after pursuing,” he said.
The victim’s father claimed that there was no reason for his son to commit suicide. “He was murdered.”
The body was handed over to the family members after autopsy, said police.
