Mitigating climate change affects: 5 lakh seeds of palm , date trees to be planted in Barishal

Barishal District Administration (BDA) has announced to sow 5 lakhs seeds of palm and date trees in 10 upazilas of the district.
BDA took this imitative to mitigate climate change and environment effects.  
Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries affected by climate change and Barishal division would be effected mostly.
Young generation should come forward to mitigate and adapt climate changes affect, speakers said these in a workshop on ` Climate justice networking with youth net’.
The program was jointly organized by Youth Net, a voluntary youth organizing and Barishal District Administration at Barishal Circuit House and participated by 50 youths from different areas of the region.
 Sahidul Islam, deputy director of local government directorate, presided over the program.
In the workshop, chief guest and deputy commissioner SM Ajiar Rahman said already environment of costal areas area changing and low lands becoming engulfed due to rise of sea level affected by climate change. So we should sow huge trees especially herbal and fruit trees at road sides and compounds of educational institutions. So from next month we will start sowing seeds of palm and date trees with the help of students and youths.
AH Taufiq Ahamed, Barishal Divisional Chief of UNICEF, said climate change affects feeling more rapidly in the Barishal region by increasing salinity, number of climate refuge, speeding river erosion, siltation and emerging shoal and decreasing natural grass and plants on the shoal and also decreasing number of raring buffalo in the region.
Participants of workshop called the young generation to come forward for mitigating climate changes effects by raising voices and taking initiatives.
