At least five people were killed and four others injured after a passenger bus hit a private car in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Khalil Miah (70), Mostafa Shikdar (50), Rokeya Begum (40), Litan Sharif (40) and Mofazzel Hossain (55).
Gazi Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shibchar Highway Police Station, said the
accident took place at 7:30 pm on Saturday night when a private car was going in the wrong direction after taking oil from Paschor Petrol Pump at Bachmara area on Dhaka-Bhanga Highway under Shibchar upazila.
“All of a sudden, a speeding bus of Emad Paribahan hit the private car there. Locals rushed to the spot to rescue the private car passengers. At that time, another Gopalganj-bound passenger bus hit the private car leaving two persons dead on the spot and critically injured six others,” said the OC.
Locals sent the seven injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where three of them succumbed to their injuries at 10:30pm, added the OC.
Police seized the bus while the driver fled the scene, the OC said.
