Five more persons, including three robbers in Bagerhat, and two yaba traders in Cox’Bazar, were killed in two separate gunfights on Monday.
In Bagerhat, at least three suspected robbers including the chief of Rana Bahini were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Charpotia beside Khonta Kodalia canal in Mongla upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as gang leader Panna, Kamrujjaman, 39, and Julhas,32.
Major Shamim Sarker, Operation officer of RAB Khulna-6 told the media that a team of law enforcement went to Khonta Kodalia canal in the morning. Sensing the presence
of RAB, the robber gang opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight. The RAB team arrested three robbers and took them to local hospital where doctor pronounced them dead. Two members of RAB were also injured.
RAB recovered four firearms, a boat, several rounds of bullets and huge materials from the spot.
In Cox’Bazar, at least two yaba traders were killed in a reported gunfight between a gang and police in Teknaf upazila on Monday.
The incident happened in Leda Rohingya camp area early in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Aman, 35, and Rafique, 20.
Prodip Kumar Das, Officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station, told the media.
