At least five people were killed and two women injured seriously in a clash between two rival groups at Bashati village in Nandail Upazila of Mymensingh district on Friday night (10 P.M.) over family feud, land and pond possession.
Police recovered the bodies of a Belal Hossain (60) and his three sons and rival Lal Miah’s son.
The deceased were identified as Md. Belal Hossain (60) a wood trader and his three sons- Farid Miah (26), Pavel Miah (16) student of class ten in Bashati High School, Md. Himal Miah (15) student of class nine in Bashati High School, and Md. Jamal Uddin (30), son of Lal Miah.
On information Police rushed the spot and recovered the five bodies on Friday midnight and Saturday morning from near a pond at Bashati under Nandail Upazila.
The serious injured named Banesa Khatun (48) and Kokila Akhter (60) were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Additional Police Super Syed Haron-ur- Rashid visited the spot and arrested Khokon Miah (30) in connection with the five murders.
Nandail Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Abdullah said that two cousin brothers Belal Hossain and Lal Miah had long been at loggerhead over the ownership of a piece of land. At one stage, him dead on the spot. They also chopped Belals son’s Farid, Pavel and Himel as they tried to save their father, killing them also on the spot.
Locals said the body bore several injury marks.
The dead bodies were sent to morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection with Nandail Police Station.
