Five people including two children were killed and 25 injured as a Gaibandha-bound bus fell into a ditch on the western side of the Bangabandhu Bridge link road in Kamarkhand upazila on Friday. Four of the five deceased were identified as Shahana, 12, daughter of Jahidul Islam of Sonaidanga village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila; Farida, 22, wife of Rafiqul Islam of the same village; Selina, 28, wife of Erfan Ali of Birahilpur village in Gobindaganj upazila, Nirob, a minor boy of Jewel Ahmed of Gariapara village of the same upazila. Helal Uddin, officer in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station said the Gaibandha-bound bus carrying home-goers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr fell into the ditch breaking the railing of bridge number 4 of the Bangabandhu Bridge link road around 5:15pm, leaving three of the passengers dead on the spot and 27 others injured. The injured were rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital where two more succumbed to their injuries. Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
