Five people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Gajaria upazila on Tuesday morning.
Locals said Ripon, president of Jubo Dal Hesendi union unit, and Sohel, president of the same unit Bangladesh Chhatra League, had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the neighbourhood.
As a sequel to the enmity, men of Sohel attacked Fahim, brother of Ripon, at Yeamina Char when he was going to Dhaka in the morning.
At one stage, the two groups, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other, leaving five people injured. Being informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.
Of the injured, Fahim was admitted to the Dhaka Mitford Hospital while others to a local hospital.
Ajoy Kumar Pal, sub-inspector of Gajaria Police Station, confirmed the incident.
