Five persons including a UP member named Shaikh Mizanur Rahman (35) was arrested by the police on Tuesday on the charge of committing rape with a female garment worker forcibly in the night of Bijoya Dashami. Police raided Bakpura, Haderhat and other adjacent places and arrested the rapists from there.
Rapist Shaikh Mizanur Rahman is a member of Ward No. 9 of Baraipara Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district and son of one Shaikh Abdul Mazid of village Bakpura within the Union. The other arrested rapists are Bikash Mridha (19), son of one Amal Mridha, Sukanta Sarkar (32), son of one Narayan Chandra Sarkar, Bidhan Biswas (28), son of one Asim Biswas and Md. Sohel Fakir (26), son of one Md. Anwar Fakir. All of them hailed from Chintarkhor village within the Union Parishad. In this connection the victim lodged a case with Bagerhat Sadar Model PS on Tuesday morning mentioning the names of those five persons.
It is stated in the case that on the day of Bijoya Dasami (Monday) the victim after visiting the different Puja pandels at Jatrapur was returning home at night by a van and when she reached Bakpurar Mor at about 10 pm, UP member Shaikh Mizanur Rahman halted her van, took away her forcibly behind the Union Tahsil Office where he committed rape on her forcibly and left her there at about 12 pm. Then she alone was returning home on foot. But on her way to the residence she was sexually molested again by Bikash Mridha, Sukanta Sarkar, Bidhan Biswas and Md. Sohel fakir at Haderhat.
Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat told, the medical test of the victim was already done and the rapist UP member and four others who molested her chastity were already arrested. Hed added, after the primary interrogation all the culprits were sent to the court.
