Five examinees committed suicide over failing and poor results in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations across the country on Wednesday. The incidents reportedly commited in city’s Badda, Gazipur’s Kalikoir, Natore’s Gurudashpur and Patualkali’s Dumki upazilas respectively after publishing the results, police said.A student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself over failing in the HSC examination in the city’s Badda area. The deceased has been identified as Adnan Ali Mehedi Shovon, 17, son of Rafiqul Islam, resident of Middle Badda in the capital. He appeared in the HSC examination from Malibagh Science College.Quoting family members, Badda Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Jalil said that Shovon committed suicide by hanging with a ceiling fan at his room at around 2:30 pm after failing in the examination.The relatives of the victim rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), but the on-duty doctor declared him dead. In another incident, a female college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself over failing in the HSC examination at Deawire area under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district. The deceased has been identified as Bithi Rani 17, daughter of Kali Sankar. She appeared in the examination from Gazipur Women College. Quoting family members, Kaliakoir Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Faruq said that Bithi committed suicide by hanging with a ceiling fan at his room at around 3:15 pm.In the other hand, a 19-year old girl committed suicide for not getting GPA 5 in the HSC examination at Jolisha village of Dumki upazila in Patuakhali district. The deceased has been identified as Tania Akhter, daughter of one Altaf Hossain, student of Janata Degree College in the upazila.Quoting family members, Dumki Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman said that Tania hanged herself with her scarf in her room after getting the HSC results in the afternoon.On the other hand, a 17-year old girl committed suicide for not getting GPA 5 in the Alim (HSC equivalent) examination at Munshipara village under Dumki upazila of Patuakhali district. The deceased has been identified identified as Sabina Yasmin, daughter of one Jasir. The details identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
