Staff Reporter :Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained five members of a gang for producing fake currency and seized counterfeit notes of around Tk 1.04 crore in Banasri residential area of Dhaka early Sunday.They also seized fake note-making equipment during the drive, the RAB official said.Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-3 conducted a raid in Banasri around 6:00am and detained one Rahim, a ringleader of the fake currency making syndicate, Major Maksud, Deputy Director of Media Wing of the elite force said at a press briefing at the RAB Headquarter in the city’s Uttara area on Sunday morning.As per his statement, the RAB team also detained five of his associates and seized fake notes worth around Tk 1, 04, 80,000 from their possession.At least 25 gangs are engaged with the crime currently, according to the Detective Branch officials. According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police, in Dhaka only some 53 members of fake note gangs were arrested in last one year. Of them, 12 were repeatedly released on bail and got involved with the crime. On June 14, police had arrested six of a similar gang with Tk 5 million of counterfeit notes from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The law enforcers also asked people to be careful while shopping before the Eid.
