Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 200 gold bars weighing around 24kg, worth around Tk nine crore from five passengers of an auto-rickshaw at Moin Ghat in Dohar upazila of Dhaka district on Friday morning. .
The detained passengers are Mohsin, 47, from Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj district Firoj, 34, Shaffique, 46, Mizan, 34, and Aminul, 40, from Nababganj upazila of Dhaka district, RAB official said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-11 intercepted the passengers and
searched their bodies and found 200 gold bars and Tk 26,000 at Moin Ghat under Dohar upazila around 7:00am, said Alep Uddin, Senior Assistant Director(Adjutant Staff Officer) of RAB-11.
The elite force members detained the five passengers for illegal possession of the gold bars, the RAB offical said.
A case was filed with Dohar Police Station in this connection, he said.
