Detectives arrested five people in connection with the killing of Saiham Group assistant general manager Monirul Islam from Khilgaon area in the city on Monday night; one of whom confessed to the murder stating his mother’s extramarital affair with the victim as reason, police claimed.
The arrestees were identified as Morsalin, Shakil, Akash, Ashik and Jewel. Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in
different areas of Dhaka and arrested the five at night, said Joint Commissioner (DB) of the DMP Abdul Baten at a press conference at the DMP centre.
During primary quizzing, Morsalin said that he came to know that Monirul Islam,35, AGM of Saiham Group, who went missing on May 17, had extramarital relationship with his mother.
Enraged, he along with his four associates picked up Monirul from Dakkhingaon in Sabujbagh area on May 17 and took him to a place. At one stage, they strangled Monirul and dumped the body at Shekher Jaiga in the city’s Khilgaon area.
On May 18, local people noticed Monirul’s body lying in the area beside the road and informed police, who later recovered it.
Based on information from Morsalin, police recovered Monirul’s mobile phone set and a gadget from two several water bodies in Khilgaon.
