The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested five members of a gang, manufacturing fake national identity cards (NID), driving licenses and education certificates.
A large quantity of fake NID cards, driving licenses and forged document making equipment were seized from under their profession.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the legal and media wing of the elite force, told it at a press conference of the RAB in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Tuesday.
He said Golam Mostafa, Jalal Bashar, Muslim Uddin, Minarul Islam (Minni) and Tareq Mridha were arrested from Malibagh, Basabo, Shahjahanpur and Kotwali police station areas of the capital on Monday night.
At that time two computers, 2460 fake receipts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, 26 fake national identity cards, 1 laptop, 1 digital camera, 18 fake driving licenses, 80 fake national identity cards and blank cards for making driving license and 50 transparent card holders were recovered. Legal action is being taken against those arrested.
According to RAB, the accused have been manufacturing fake NID cards, fake driving licenses, fake certificates of various education boards and other fake documents for 8-10 years. Mostafa was the main leader of this cycle. The rest are his collaborators. The members of the gang used to target the customers by taking position in front of the election and the BRTA offices.
They also used to give flashy advertisements through social media demanded 3-4 thousand taka from the customers for each fake driving license. In order to get NID/ driving license quickly, the field has to pay eight to 10 thousand taka, RAB officials added.
