Law enforcers on Sunday arrested five students of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute for their involvement in pushing the principal of the institute into a pond on the campus.
But the main accused Kamal Hossain Shorub is still fugitive.
Meanwhile, a group of teachers and students held demonstrations in front of the institute yesterday. They also boycotted classes and examinations.
Some students also blocked the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway demanding punishment of the culprits.
The arrestees were identified as Shahriar, 23, Sohel Rana, 22, Badhon Ray, 20, Ariful Islam, 23, and Mehedi Hasan Rabbi, 21.
The activities of the committee of the Polytechnic Branch of BCL unit have been suspended. In addition, Joint Secretary Kamal Hossain has been expelled from the politechnic’s BCL unit.

Commissioner and spokesperson for Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, confirmed the news to the media saying that 25 students were detained between Saturday night and Sunday morning during separate raids.
Later, five were shown arrested after being identified by the CCTV footage, he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Principal of the institute engineer Farid Uddin Ahmed pushed into a pond by students belonging to the institute’s Chhatra League unit.
