A tribunal court sentenced to five persons to life imprisonment for dacoity and killing at Pakundia upazila on Sunday.
It is reported that, on September 02,2006 a group of dacoits numbering 10 to 12 persons broke into the house of Rafiqul Islam village Khama and committed dacoity and looted Tk 1,42,825 from the inmates of the house.
While committing the crime the dacoits attacked Mizanur Rahman with a dagger and he was killed. Later on a case was filed in the Pakundia Police Station and police charge-sheeted 24 persons.
Afterwards, the case was started in the District and Session Judge court and the learned Judge A.M. Md. Sayeed awarded life imprisonment to Baten, Miraj,Yeasin, A.Malek and Lal Miah u/s 396. They were fined Taka 10,000 each and indefault two years more imprisonment. Ninteen persons connected with this case were acquited as there are no evidences against them.
Adv Shah Azizul Hoque, Public Prosecutor, pleaded for the state wehere as Advocate Mohammad Ali Bhuiyan, Advocate A N M Hilali, Advocate Sekhor Chandra Sarker, Advocate Abdur Rahman and Advocate ABM Lutfur Rashid Rana pleaded infavour of the convicts.
