A tribunal here on Sunday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment in a case over gang-rape of two teenage girls after abduction in 2016.
The five convicts are-Ujjal Khan, 25, Shukur Ali, 26, Miraz Sheikh, 25, IliasBepari, 20 and ShafiMolla, 25 of Salepur village in Charbhadrason upazila of the district.
The court also fined them Tk one lakh each, in default, to suffer three years more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up the two girls of Salepur village by motorbikes and
took them to a maize filed where they violated the girls in turns on April 14, 2016. They also videoed the incident.
The convicts then demand Tk one lakh from the families of the two victims with a threat that if they fail to provide the money the video footage will be uploaded on social networking sites.
However, the criminals uploaded the video footage on social networking sites after failing to realise the money from the family members of the victims.
On June 11, 2016, one of the victim’s father, filed a case with Charbhadrashon Police Station against five people.
After examining the records and witnesses, Faridpur District and Session Judge Mohammad Alamgir Kabir handed down the verdict.
