A Chapainawabganj court on Monday sentenced five persons to death and fined them of Tk. 1,00,000 for killing a house wife after rape in Chapainawabganj.
Additional district and session judge and also the judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Md. Ziaur Rahman handed down the punishment in presence of the convicts. The convicted persons are Jibon alias Babu, 20, son of Koyes Ali of Chut Araimari village, Ketab Uddin, 35, son of late Belal Uddin of Kaliganj village, Alamgir Hossain, 36, son of Abdul Latif of Chapradola village, Nurul Islam, 30, son of Fakir Mohamad of the same village and Jenarul Daktar, 35, son of late Saber Ali of Kaliganj village all of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district.
According to the prosecution story, the victim Monira Begum, 22, daughter of Ainal Hoque of Satrashia village of Shibganj upazila was married to Rojbul, son of Fazlur Rahman of Bakharali Biswanathpur village under the same upazila and her husband worked outside the
district. Meanwhile, Jibon developed love affairs with her. On April 20, 2014 at around 10 pm Jibon called her over mobile phone from her in law’s house tempting her of marriage and taking her to a nearby maize field and he along with his accomplices gang raped her and then killed her.
Next day at around 2 pm being informed police from Shibganj thana recovered the dead body. On April 22, 2014 Monira’s mother Sulekha Begum filed a case with Shibganj thana in this connection accusing 11 persons.
Investing officer SI Abul Kalam Azad submitted charge sheet against the accused persons with the court on February 10, 2015.
The court heard the witnesses and sentenced the above five persons to death and acquitted six others of the charge.
They are Azizul Hoque, Ataur Rahman, Akbar Ali, Obaidul alias Ebadul, Azam Ali and Mukul of the same area.
