S.M. Solaiman, District and Session Judge of Bagerhat, in a judgment on Thursday convicted 5 dry fish traders of Alorkol within Dublarchar dry fish village in the Eastern Davison of Sundarban forest, and to pay a fine of Taka one lakh each and to compensate the in heritors of the victim fisherman after selling their (convicted persons) both movable and immovable properties in default to suffer another rigorous imprisonment for 5 years more on the change of beating Swet Sardar (50), a fisherman to death for stealing cash Taka.
The convicted dry fish traders are Joydeb Biswas and Mahadeb Biswas, sons of one Brojendra Biswas of Chuknagar area under Dumuria Upazila in Khulna district, Ramendra Nath Roy, son of one Bhola Nath Roy, Swadhan Biswas, son of one Gauranga Biswas of the same area and Shaikh Sirajul Islam, son of one Shaikh Shamsul Rahman of Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district. All the convicted persons were present in the court at the time of judgment.
The prosecution story, in short, is that on February 27 in the year 2007 Swet Sardar (50), a fishermen of fish depot belonging to Joydeb of Alorkol in Dubala fisherman village held on the charge of stealing a sum of Tk,50 thousand. Later he was taken to the fish depot of Kamaluddin who was the leader (Sardar) of Alorkol where he (Swet Sardar) was beaten to death by the accused persons. In this connection Prince Sardar, son of deceased Swet Sardar lodged a murder case with Sharankhola PS in Bagerhat district against six persons including Kamal Uddin, leader of Dublar Chars dry fish traders’ Association.
After investigating into the matter Md. Shahajahan Mia, SI of Sharankhola PS submitted a chargesheet to the court on June 6, 2007 against the accused persons excluding Kamal Uddin.
