Police detained five fake journalists including a female from the Technical road area in South Surma upazila Wednesday on charge of extorting money from a principal of a local college.
The detainees are Belayet Hossain Sabuj, 27, son of Mohi Uddin Ahmed, of Hatimganj Nijtola village in Golapganj upazila; Subro Chandra Shil, son of Sibu Chandra Shil, of the village and Farhana Begum, 20, daughter of late Moti Miah, of Karimpur Derai upazila of Sunamganj, Emrul in Madoppur area and Motin Biswanath area.
South Surma police outpost SI Shafiqul Islam Khan said the trio went to the residence of Sylhet Vocational School and College Principal Md Saidur around 2pm and demanded Tk25,000 threatening to make fabricated reports involving him.
