A 5-day long Chittagong Furniture Fair-2014 began at GEC convention centre of the port city yesterday afternoon which will continue upto December 8 upto 9 pm.
Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association, chittagong divisional unit arranged the fair in the port city. This is the 6th fair of the Furniture owners Association in Chittagong.
State Minister for Land Ministry Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed MP inaugurated the fair as Chief Guest by releasing the balloons.
President of Chittagong chamber of commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam, and the chairman of Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association Selim H Rahman were present in it as special guest.
President of Chittagong Unit of the Association Syed AM Nuruddin presided over it. Convenor of the fair committee Moksudur Rahman delivered the address of welcome to the guests. Among others, Selim H Rahman, Md. Elias Sarkar, ASM Nuruddin, Maksudur Rahman, Alhaj Shahabuddin, MN Azam Khan spoke on the occasion. The chief guest in his address emphasised the need of de velopment of furniture industry . He hoped this furniture industry will be turned into a readymade furniture industry like readymade garments industry and will occupy the second place of export earnings after RMG sector. He further said Bangladesh should occupy the place of china, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia in exporting the readymade furniture to abroad. He also stressed the need for maintaining the quality of the furniture products. The Minister also emphasised the neef for training to the unskilled furniture workers(carpenters) according to the need of the hour .
The fair will remain open from 10 a,m to 9 pm every day and a colourful cultural function will be arranged on concluding day.
