UNB, Chittagong :
A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists attacked a bus carrying teachers of Chittagong University (CU) at Nandirhat in Hathazari upazila on Sunday, leaving five injured.
One of the injured teachers is Mallika Roy, lecturer of the CU Economics Department. Witnesses said, a group of BCL men, loyal to Nasir Haider Babul, assistant secretary of central Awami League sub-committee, swooped on the university bus carrying the teachers and hurled brickbats at it when the vehicle reached the area around 8:30am.
Windowpanes of the bus got damaged in the attack that left five teachers injured. The BCL men also vandalised three CNG-run auto-rickshaws in the area.
Confirming the incident, Rabiul Alam, director (in-charge) of CU Transport Department, said the supporters of Nasir, also former general secretary of CU unit BCL, carried out the attack following Saturday’s assault of the ruling party leader on the campus.
Nasir was physically assaulted by a group of BCL activists when he went to the CU campus to attend a programme commemorating late CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abu Yusuf on Saturday.
