5 court employees get life term for forging judge’s signature

The Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka yesterday sentenced five persons including two employees of the court to 14 years of imprisonment each for helping 106 accused to secure bail with fake orders. However, they will have to suffer seven years in the prison, as punishment under two sections of the Penal Court will run concurrently.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the court pronounced the verdict in his crowded courtroom. The convicts are- Mosleh Uddin Bhuiyan-bench assistant of Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court-2, employees
Sheikh Mohamaad Naim, Umedar Md Alamgir Hossain, Md Ismail Hossain and Zahangir Hossain. Of the convicts, Alamgir and Zahangir are at large. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each and in default they will suffer two months more in the prison.
Besides, the court directed the authorities concerned to take legal action against Anti Corruption Commission Assistant Director Shafiullah, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case for his negligence in investigation.
According to the prosecution, the convicts managed bail of 106 accused persons in 76 different cases placing fake signature of Judge Samsunnahar Begum on the bail bonds.
On March 15 last year, the ACC submitted the charge sheet of the case against the five accused as their involvement in the forgery was proved.
