Five policemen including OC of Sharsha police station Md Ataur Rahman have been withdrawn for allegedly trying to embezzle seized drugs on Monday.
The other police members who faced punishment are : SI Md Abul Hasan, ASI Abu bokkor Siddiq, Constable Md Abdul Mannan and Iqbal Hossain of Sharsha police station.
On Monday, Dr Muhammad Mohid Uddin, DIG of Khulna, in an office order (number GA 02/3106/7) closed them. The order said that Sharsha thana OC Md Ataur Rahman was closed and attached to Khulna Reserve Force (RRF). At the same time, SI Abul Hasan, ASI Abu Bokkor Siddiq, Constable Md Abdul Mannan and Md Iqbal Hossain were attached to district police line.
Police sources said that the OC and his accomplices were punished for embezzling the seized 450 bottles of phensedyl and 16 KGs of hemp. However, Mohammad Tauhidul Islam, Jashore district police spokesperson Additional Police Super (DSB), said “Punitive measures were taken against the five policemen as evidence of a case was not collected properly”.
