Five policemen and two drug traders were injured in a clash between the two groups at Rangipara slum in the city on Tuesday night.
The injured policemen were identified as sub-inspectors Himel Roy, Nurul Afsar and Mizanur Rahman and assistant sub-inspectors Sharif and Jakir Hossain.
Officer-in-charge of Halishahar Police Station Pranab Chowdhury said on secrete information that a group of people were selling drugs at Rangipara slum, a team of his police station conducted a drive there.
However, sensing the presence of police, the drug traders swooped on the law enforcers, leaving five police personnel injured.
On information, another team of police rushed to the spot and carried out a drive in the slum when several chases and counter chases took place between them and the drug dealers, leaving two traders injured.
Later, police arrested one Shohel and his father in connection with selling drugs.
A case was filed with Halishahar Police Station against the two arrestees and many unidentified others for preventing police from discharging their duties.
