At least ten people, including five policemen, were injured in a gunfight between police and a gang of robbers at Grosgram Bazar on Manannagar-Ranirhat road in Tarash upazila early Friday.
Police said being tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around
2:30 am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight. Five alleged robbers received bullet injures during the gunfight.
They are-Abdul Momin, 36, Alhaz Mandal, 26, Zia Sardar, 28, Abul Kalam, 36 and Anwar Hossain, 38.
Besides, five policemen, including officer-in-charge of Tarash Police Station Ataur Rahman, also suffered bullet injuries during the gunfight. The injured were rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital.
