Upazila Election: 5 candidates contesting for chairman, AL candidate confident of winning in Gouripur

Voting in the fourth phase of 5th upazila parishad elections will begin in Gouripur upazila amid tight security on Sunday (March 31).
The balloting will continue from 8am to 4pm, without any break. Sunday has been declared a holiday in the polling areas. A total of 234,595 voters will be able to exercise their voting rights under 88 polling stations in the election. In this upazila 5 candidates are vying for chairman posts while 11 vice-chairman and 5 woman vice-chairman candidates are contesting the elections.
 Five candidates who are contesting for chairman post are : Awami League (AL) candidate and Upazila AL General Secretary Bidhu Bhushan Das with symbol ‘Boat’, former upazila chairman Ali Ahmed Khan Salvee with symbol ‘Motorcycle’ Upazila Jubo League Secretary Md, Moffazzal Hossain Khan (symbol Doyat Kalam), Adv. Kamrul Hasan Kiron (symbol pine apple) and Peoples Party candidate Md. Shafiul Islam(symbol Mango). 11 Vice-chairman and 5 woman vice-chairman candidates are contesting the elections. They are Upazila Jubo League President and present upazila vice chairman Md Sannaul Huque(symbol Thala), Md.Rezaul Karim (symbol Mike), Matiur Rahman Rafique Bokainagori (symbol Chashma), Md Sohel Rana (symbol Palki), Reporter Jahirul Huda Liton(symbol Ice-cream ), former councilor Abu Syed Md. Farukkuzzam(symbol Parrot) Abu Sadek Khondakar(symbol Gas Cylinder ) Md Mojibur Rahman (symbol Tube well ) Adv. Kajol Miah (symbol Bulb ) ,Md. Kamal Hossain (symbol Airplane ) and Adv Robel Miah (symbol Book ) .
Besides, 5 other woman vice-chairman candidates are present female upazila Vice Chairman Rabeya Islam Doly (symbol- Duck), Upazila Mahila Shramik League President Taslima Akter Koli (symbol Jar), Salma Akter Robi (symbol Butterfly), Nurjahan Begum (symbol Lotus) and Angura Akter (symbol Foot ball), Awami League (AL) candidate and upazila AL General Secretary Bidhu Bhushan Das told The New Nation he was confident about winning the post of chairman as he was the most popular senior leader of the party.
