Five persons were burnt when a compressor of an electronic device exploded in an electronics shop in the capital’s Lalbagh area on Sunday afternoon.
They are Md Zakir, Abul Kashem, Md Shamim, Md Masum and shop owner Mamunur Rashid.
The victims are undergoing treatment in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Bachchu Mia, Sub-Inspector and In-Charge of the DMCH police outpost.
The victims sustained 15 to 50 percent burn injuries, the SI said.
The fire broke out with an explosion inside the Taba Electronics shop near Lalbagh intersection around 12:15pm, said Chawkbazar Police Station’s Inspector Shamim Rashid Talukdar.
Air conditioners, refrigerators, television sets and other electronic devices stored inside the shop have been damaged, said the OC.
Firefighters doused the blaze. They believe that a compressor explosion sparked the fire.
