At least 11 workers, including five Bangladeshis, were killed and 32 others injured when a factory bus carrying them skidded on the road into a monsoon drain near Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sunday night.
The Bangladeshi deceased have been identified as Md Razib Munshli, 26, Md Sohel, 24, Mohin, 37, Al Amin, 25; and Golam Mostafa, 22.
The injured BD nationals are Md Nazmul Haque, 21, Md Rozbul Islam, 43, Imran Hossain, 21, Jahid Hassan, 21, Samim Ali, 32, Mohammad Yunus, 27, and Md Rakib, 24. They are undergoing treatment at Putrajaya Hospital and Serdang Hospital, reports local New Straits Times.
The two others deceased were from Nepal and three others from Indonesia. The bus driver killed in the accident was driving by the wrong way, KLIA OCPD Assistant Comm Zulkifli Adamshah said.
The 43-year-old driver should have taken the three o’clock exit at the round about near the incident, but took the 12 o’clock exit instead, the KLIA OCPD official said.
“He was supposed to take the three o’clock exit which leads to MASKargo, where the workers he was transporting were supposed to go, but he took the wrong exit”.
“The accident took place about 200 metres from the roundabout. We are investigating why he took the wrong turn; whether it was a mistake or not,” he said when met at the Serdang Hospital forensic department on Monday.
“The driver does not have any traffic records in his name and his licence is valid,” the KLIA OCPD Asst Comm said.
“We are looking at everything, including the state of the bus and the driver to determine the cause of the accident,” he said.
The driver’s relative, met at Serdang Hospital, who declined to be named, said the driver, Suresh, is survived by his wife and three children.
The remaining 34 passengers were sent to several hospitals, including Kajang, Serdang and Putrajaya hospitals for treatment.
According to Kuala Lumpur police, a bus carrying 56 workers plunged into roadside ditch at Jalan S8 Pekeliling, near MAS Kargo, Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA) around 11:16pm, leaving nine dead on the spot, reports a Malaysian daily.
