5 Bangladeshis killed in Saudi road crashes

UNB, Dhaka: Five Bangladeshi nationals, including a couple, were killed and three others injured in two road accidents in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. Of them, four were killed in an accident in Al Kharj city. The deceased were identified as Abbas Ali, 45, his wife Rehana, 32, residents of Bhogti village in Keshabpur municipality of Jessore, and Sheuli Begum, 37, wife of Saiful Islam and their son Saim Omar, 11, of Hamdah Sheikhpara area in Jhenidah district town. The accident took place when a truck hit a private car carrying six Bangladeshi nationals, said Matiur Rahman, ward-2 councillor of Keshabpur municipality. The injured were identified as Afrin Priti, 5, daughter of Abbas Ali, Saiful Islam and his daughter Shammi Akhter. Abbas had been working as a driver in a company there, Matiur added. Saiful had been living in Saudi Arabia for the last 22 years. His wife and two children went there on last January 18for performing Umrah, said his Saiful’s elder daughter Saima Islam. The tragic incident happened when Abbas was returning home along with his family and four other relatives after performing Umrah hajj there, said Matiur. Another Bangladeshi was killed in an accident in Dammam city. Abdul Jalil, 42, son of late Abul Hashem, hailing from Hatkhola village in Kachua upazila of Chandpur, used to work as a pipe fitter in a company in Dammam. A speeding bus ran over him while working in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot.
